Iran embassy condemns awarding of Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuela’s pro-genocide politician
In a statement posted in Spanish on its X account on Saturday, the Iranian embassy said the Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan politician, María Corina Machado, is “nothing but a mockery of the true meaning of peace.”
It further said that considering Machado for the Nobel, “who justifies the genocide in Gaza and advocates for military aggression against Venezuela, is yet another example of the West’s divisive and interventionist mentality toward the developing world.”
The Norwegian Nobel Committee is once again surrounded by controversies, with critics pointing out that Machado was selected despite her support for Israel and its bombing of Gaza and even calling for foreign intervention to overthrow the elected government in Venezuela.
“Among the Nobel Peace Prize winners, alongside the usual political maneuvering, there were once enduring names: Albert Schweitzer, Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa, Mandela, and others,” Iranian Culture Minister Abbas Salehi reacted, adding that “but for years, such names have vanished.”
