Pakistan Finalizing FTA with Iran: Ambassador – Politics news
Addressing a ceremony held in Tehran on Monday to commemorate Kashmir Black Day, Muhammad Mudassir Tipu said Pakistan and Iran are finalizing and preparing to sign a free trade agreement to expand bilateral trade.
The ambassador noted that a recent legal framework has been established between the two countries to facilitate barter trade, which allows direct exchange of goods while eliminating financial transactions.
He also stated that further meetings with Iranian counterparts will be held to determine the details of this mechanism and which products will be exchanged, acknowledging that full implementation may take several years.
Pakistan maintains very strong diplomatic relations with Iran, the envoy added, noting that both neighbors are in continuous direct communication and that there is significant potential for growth in bilateral relations.
Regarding Iran’s role in addressing the recent tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban, Mudassir Tipu said that Iran is an important country in South Asia with shared borders with Pakistan and Afghanistan.
The ambassador stated that Pakistan and Iran share common goals regarding regional peace, stability, development and the fight against terrorism.
He added that Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and President Masoud Pezeshkian, have emphasized the importance of maintaining regional peace and stability, and Pakistan is committed to taking all necessary measures to support these objectives.
