Iranian FM in Cairo to Meet Egyptian Officials, IAEA Chief – Politics news
Heading a diplomatic delegation, Araqchi arrived in Egypt on Tuesday for a one-day visit.
The top Iranian diplomat is going to hold separate meetings with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to discuss the relations between Tehran and Cairo as well as the regional and international developments.
According to Spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Esmaeil Baqaei, Araqchi is also scheduled to hold a meeting with Grossi in Cairo for talks about the course of interaction between Iran and the IAEA under the new circumstances following the unlawful military attacks that the US and the Zionist regime launched against Iran’s nuclear sites in June and a subsequent law passed by the Iranian Parliament on the suspension of cooperation with the UN nuclear agency.
The Iranian Parliament passed a bill on June 25 to put the ties with the IAEA on hold after a biased report from IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi against Iran paved the way for a resolution by the Board of Governors that encouraged the Israeli regime to launch a war of aggression on Iran and also prompted the US to bomb three main nuclear sites of Iran.
On September 3, Araqchi said Tehran will not provide any new cooperation with the IAEA before the conclusion of negotiations.
“In view of these developments, how and under what framework Iran and the IAEA should cooperate is a matter under negotiation, and in fact, the Agency itself has agreed that new developments require a new framework of cooperation,” Araqchi said.
“No new cooperation will be there until the negotiations are concluded,” he stressed.
The foreign minister stressed that Iran “will do everything” to prevent the re-imposition of UN sanctions under the snapback mechanism.
