Iran denounces U.S.-Israeli attacks as gross violation of U.N. Charter
Araqchi’s condemnation came during a meeting with his Brazilian counterpart, Mauro Vieira, on the sidelines of the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday evening.
He stated that the illegal attacks of the United States and Israel also violated the non-proliferation regime and the foundation of diplomacy, which has great consequences for regional peace and security.
Commending Brazil for its firm and principled stance in condemning aggressive actions against Iran, the top diplomat attributed “the Zionist regime’s warmongering and expansionism with impunity” to the comprehensive support it receives from the United States and some European countries.
Araqchi called it legal and moral responsibility of all governments to stop Israeli crimes against Palestinians and its aggression against the people in the region.
Vieira, for is part, recalled his country’s firm stance in condemning the violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as attacks on the country’s peaceful nuclear facilities by the Israeli regime and the United States.
Araqchi also met and held talks with his counterparts from Russia, China, Turkey, Egypt, and India on the sidelines of the summit.
In the meeting with Russia’s Sergei Lavrov, the two top diplomats reviewed bilateral relations and regional developments following the U.S.-Israeli military aggression against Iran.
Referring to the consequences of attacks on Iran, Araqchi emphasized the determination of the Islamic Republic in defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as holding the aggressors accountable for their crimes.
Stressing that the U.N. Security Council and all governments are liable to fulfill their duties in maintaining international peace and security, Araqchi noted that Israel and the U.S. dealt a fatal blow to the principles and objectives of the U.N. Charter, diplomacy, and the non-proliferation regime with their unprovoked and illiterate aggression against Iran.
Lavrov reaffirmed his country’s stance on Iran, saying Russia promptly condemned illegal attacks against the Islamic Republic, including on its peaceful nuclear facilities.
On Sunday evening, Iranian and Turkish foreign ministers exchanged views on bilateral issues as well as regional and international developments on the sidelines of the BRICS summit.
The talks between Araqchi and Hakan Fidan largely focused on the recent Israeli-U.S. military aggression against Iran and its implication on the region and beyond.
They also emphasized the need for urgent international action to end the Israeli genocide of Palestinians in the occupied territories and to hold the regime accountable and punish it for committing heinous crimes.
